Shallow extra mixing in solar twins inferred from Be abundances ⋆

چکیده
Context. Lithium and beryllium are destroyed at different temperatures in stellar interiors. As such, their relative abundances offer excellent probes of the nature and extent of mixing processes within and below the convection zone. Aims. We determine Be abundances for a sample of eight solar twins for which Li abundances have previously been determined. The analyzed solar twins span a very wide range of age, 0.5–8.2 Gyr, which enables us to study secular evolution of Li and Be depletion. Methods. We gathered high-quality UVES/VLT spectra and obtained Be abundances by spectral synthesis of the Be ii 313 nm doublet. Results. The derived beryllium abundances exhibit no significant variation with age. The more fragile Li, however, exhibits a monotonically decreasing abundance with increasing age. Therefore, relatively shallow extra mixing below the convection zone is necessary to simultaneously account for the observed Li and Be behavior in the Sun and solar twins.

Planet accretion and the abundances of lithium isotopes
Planet accretion onto solar type stars may significantly change the stellar atmospheric abundances of Li and Li if it takes place after the star has arrived at the main sequence. Ingestion of planets at an earlier phase will not affect theses abundances because of extensive pre-main sequence mixing and burning. We present quantitative estimates of the main sequence evolution of stellar surface ...
متن کاملSolar Twins and Possible Solutions of the Solar and Jupiter Abundance Problems
Implications of the recently discovered systematic abundance difference between the Sun and two collections of ‘solar twins’ are discussed. The differences can be understood as an imprint on the abundances of the solar convection zone caused by the lock-up of heavy elements in the planets. Such a scenario also leads naturally to possible solutions of two other abundance peculiarities; 1) the di...
متن کاملLithium abundances in exoplanet-host stars : modelling
Aims. Exoplanet-host stars (EHS) are known to present superficial chemical abundances different from those of stars without any detected planet (NEHS). EHS are, on the average, overmetallic compared to the Sun. The observations also show that, for cool stars, lithium is more depleted in EHS than in NEHS. The aim of this paper is to obtain constraints on possible models able to explain this diff...
متن کاملSolar Models with Revised Abundances and Opacities
Using reconstructed opacities, we construct solar models with low heavyelement abundance. Rotational mixing and enhanced diffusion of helium and heavy elements are used to reconcile the recently observed abundances with helioseismology. The sound speed and density of models where the relative and absolute diffusion coefficients for helium and heavy elements have been increased agree with seismi...
متن کاملChemical composition of evolved stars in the open cluster M 67 ⋆
High-resolution spectra of six core heliumburning ‘clump’ stars and three giants in the open cluster M 67 have been obtained with the SOFIN spectrograph on the Nordic Optical Telescope to investigate abundances of up to 25 chemical elements. Abundances of carbon were studied using the C2 Swan (0,1) band head at 5635.5 Å. The wavelength interval 7980–8130 Å with strong CN features was analysed i...
